Your trick (or treat) to a healthier Halloween

Your trick (or treat) to a healthier Halloween

Halloween is such a fun time of year for the family. I love watching the kids dress up, and sometimes even the adults get into the holiday spirit! But this spook-tacular holiday that brings out the kid in all of us can also bring out our sweet tooth.

Sugar, sugar everywhere

On Halloween night, the average American will eat roughly 3.4 pounds of candy. This means the average child could consume as many as 7,000 calories, according to Visual.ly! Halloween kicks off the holiday season—a season that often means throwing healthy eating habits out the window. But it doesn’t have to! This year, satisfy your sweet tooth a healthier way with my Sweet Potato Tomato Sauce!

Scary-good benefits

Thinking about eating healthy around Halloween might be hard, but with my sauce, you can sneak in SO much nutrition and trick your family into some healthy treats. The sweetest part? The only sugar comes from the sweet potatoes themselves! That’s right— no additional sugar added. See the other magical benefits for yourself:

Just one more bite…

Beyond the benefits, this sauce is hauntingly versatile. From spaghetti to lasagna to soup, the options are only limited by your imagination! Meal after meal, you can feel good about eating real food that contains 75 percent vegetables IN EVERY BITE. One of my favorite things to make in the fall is my roasted vegetable lasagna— comfort food at it’s finest, minus the guilt!

Pair this meal with Fritz Underground Winery’s devilishly delicious Estate Zinfandel.

Happy Halloween!
